Chapter One A: 2 September, 2004

The yams looked totally bizarre, so we absolutely HAD to take a picture of
them!

The link is a bus that circles through downtown, past the university, the
hospital, newmarket (shopping) and back downtown. It costs $1.30 to ride
it. You don't get transfers here, so it costs that much to go both ways. The
regular bus can cost up to ten dollars or something crazy like that. You
tell the bus driver where you are going and he determines the cost from some
unseen/unknown zoning. I'm not entirely clear what those zones are, and
they're called something else here, but I don't remember what right now. I
love the link because it has that sign telling you what the next stop is.

You have to stick your arm out to 'signal' to the driver that you want to
catch that bus. If you don't stick out your arm like you're hailing a cab,
the bus drives right past you. It's alright though, it runs every ten
minutes.

Check out the nz kiwis!! They are actually the same size. I didn't buy them,
so I don't know if they are really any sweeter or not. I told you about the
lemons though. . . Patrick got fish and chips and thought they put an orange
wedge on his plate. I told him it was a lemon. He didn't believe me even
though the lemons here are darker than the ones at home. ahahahahahahaha

We have more pics to come, they are on that throwaway one use camera, and we
have yet to get the pictures developed. I'll be working on that today I
think.

Take care

April
