Chapter Twenty: 14 December, 2004
The Rest

I fell in love with these signs. We've seen the ducks crossing sign in a few different places and finally got the shot! it's pretty adorable.

I laugh or snicker or snort or giggle every single time I see the cow sign. I'm not entirely sure why, but I love that sign.

There are tiny cemetarys everywhere. Everywhere. It's kind of creepy. There's an ancient cemetary a block or two away from our apartment (which is 15 City Road right off of queen street one block from Karangahape road or K road to native nz'rs)

When we saw the Canadian flag, we looped around and drove back to it and sang Oh Canada and felt homesick and counted the days until we'd be back

When we drove through Kawakawa, I had to take a picture of one of the trees. There were many all along the entire main drag.

That shop was in some small town somewhere along the way where we'd stopped to get some water or something. Notice the ship thingy. Notice the arts and crafts. Notice the underwear on display. it's all bizarre!

Apparently there used to be a white sand touristy trippy thing to do. We couldnt' find it when we tried to drive out to it. It looks pretty spectacular though.

Patrick got some super hot new shorts. Thought I'd share.

We stayed at the Copthorne Hotel in Paihia. It was pretty swank.

So there's a picture of the view. There's a picture of the room.

Another picture of the view. I didn't really care about any of it so much as the bathtub. I had me a hot bath with bubbles and stuff from the Lush shop and was very very very happy about it. It's been a very long time and I miss having my baths.

We had our anniversary dinner at the Jerusalem Cafe. It was very lovely and the food was good. It's a shame you can't really see any of the art that was on the walls or much of the decor. We really enjoyed ourselves. Here's to three years and many more to come!

We had to haul ass back to Auckland. So here was our trip, went out friday night, home by midnight, out the door just after eight am on saturday morning, drove - stopped at McDonalds in Wellsford, drove, stopped in Mangonui for fish and chips, drove, stopped at that supposed last gas station, drove, reached Cape Reinga - had one of the best moments in my life there - stayed maybe ten maybe fifteen minutes, drove back to Paihia - checked in - looked everywhere for somehwere to get something to eat for a nice romantic anniversary dinner - went back to the hotel - HAD MY BATH - patrick woke me up in the middle of the night thinking there were kiwis outside that he could hear, but wouldnt' get up to check and see if they really were out there - woke up - had our complimentary breakfast smorgasbord and took off at nine thirty in the morning to drive back to auckland to make it to my work get together to say farewell to Cathering since she's leaving next week. We had to be there by one, plus bring something to eat. We stopped at FoodTown on the way back and got there at one fifteen. My centre is having another christmas party tomorrow. All of the staff have to dress up. it's starting at five thirty and it's for the parents and their children. Patrick made me fairy wings. Three more sleeps until our big plane trip home!!!

We went out to dinner tonight (Indian food) with alfredo and melizza. They will be babysitting our car and my strawberry plant. They'd never had Indian food before and I think they enjoyed it.

I'm signing off. I'm tired. it's the end of the year, and the end of the school year here as well - been slaving like a freaking dog at work trying to help wrap everything up for the school year. :P I'm pooped. can't wait to come home and sleep in and stuff - you know, have a real vacation.

much love, missing you millions
