Chapter Twenty six:23 March 2005
Waiheke and Stuff

Hello all!

It's been a while since my last update eh? I guess monthly updates are good. Things have been pretty busy at work, and we've moved. We are no longer downtown on Queen Street anymore. We have moved to the Te Atatu Penninsula (some one road suburban town) and the cicadas are really really really loud. Remember the Muriwai Noisy Cricket picture? It looks like a giant elongated creepy fly, but it's just a really loud cicada and they are everywhere. They keep landing on Patrick. While backing out of the driveway yesterday, I had to stop and kick Rose out of the car so she could rescue a monarch butterfly that was flapping it's wings on the ground. I felt bad for it. I didn't know there was two of em and they were full swing mating . . . and still going at it when Rose moved them off to the side! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!! The weather highs are a soaring twenty five degrees, it's hot hot hot and we're supposed to be into the first days of fall. Daylight savings time ended for us this weekend, we are now twenty hours ahead of all you British Columbians.

The boys arrived yesterday with their Auntie Rose, we were pretty happy to see them, and they seemed to enjoy their plane rides for the most part. They said they got plenty to eat (I'm so happy they weren't hungry at some point during their eighteen hour flights and three hour airport waits). Daniel didn't bring any socks, Brennen didn't bring his toothbrush. Without chargers, their game boy ds's won't be of much use to them either. We can't find one here without waiting for a week or two for shipping.

Over the weekend, we tried to keep busy while waiting for the boys's arrival. We went to Waiheke Island again to visit with David and Nancy (pacific west coast americans), renting a car to check out Stony Batter. Patrick decided to be Mr. Muscle Man or someone . . .

There was plenty of interesting graffiti art along the twenty minute trek from the parking lot to the Stony Batter tunnels, like the giant chia pet . . .

and a giant cave troll head.

We stopped for a little junk food picnic break amongst some cows . . .

Nancy and David were so happy to have a car for the day, they got to see a lot more of the island. They don't have a car . . . and miss having one. It would have cost Patrick and I a hundred dollars to get our car over there probably plus the passengers, so splitting rental costs was a deal. While driving around, we found a lost horse, there were no people anywhere around . . .

The air conditioning and leg room was worth it. We stopped at a pebbly beach and tried to skip rocks.

Behind our house is a big (I think it's public) grassy lot. They seemed to be having a "Pony Party" back there. You can rent "Old MacDonald's Farm" for a party, and you get to ride on the ponies. The kids in the middle are in a line up waiting for their turns.

This is us in the dark dark dark tunnels with the only light at that particular moment coming from the flash of the digital camera. It was bizarre to come across a tiny display of army toys beside some strange graffiti . . . The tunnels were for three giant guns so NZ could protect itself from invaders during some war. The guys decided that the guns wouldn't have really helped all that much . . . they were thankfully never used.

Patrick's at work this week, I'm off for these two weeks YAY! and life is pretty sweet again.

For those of you who didn't know WE'RE ENGAGED! Patrick asked me if I'd marry him while we were on our three year anniversary weekend to the Far North of New Zealand. He asked at the Northernmost tip at Cape Reinga. It was gorgeous and we both cried.

We picked a date of December 10th 2005 to get hitched.

We have to reschedule our wedding date. Absolutely no where can be booked for December 10th because of all of the Holiday Season work parties that happen during every single weekend in December and the last two weeks of November. We haven't decided on a date as of yet . . . but we're working on it. So, the save the date stickers are a bust. Sorry.

Much love, I'd like to get the boys to Muriwai today since they're dying to check out the beaches here, hugz and kisses

still missing you millions

(the computer has been crapping out lately, it just shuts down out of nowhere)
