Chapter Three: 6 September, 2004

so this batch of pictures is unique. first off is buttons. the smaller eye
shaped button is for a short flush. you can see where they are located in
the second picture. The moon shaped button, or larger button is for a longer
flush.

Sometimes the buttons are on the back wall of the toilet stall.
sometimes it looks like those metal flushers that we've got at park
restrooms in vancouver, but instead of pushing on it like you would
ordinarily do to flush, you have to push it in like a button. it looks like
a lever, but it's a really long sticky outty button. they aren't called rest
rooms or washrooms or bathrooms here, they are called 'toilet's. so you have
to ask, excuse me, can you tell me where the TOILET is? it's very
embarassing, so just keep an eye out for where they are so that you don't
have to ask.

the third picture I happened to take while having a smoke out on the balcony
of our apartment at something like six oclock in the morning. The fire
alarms had gone off at four, six and eight I believe. at six, I stepped out
for a smoke to escape the obnoxious alarm.

kelly tarltons sucked. it's all completely underground. the penguins have
enough head room, but no human being would in their small space. They make a
hell of a lot of snow to keep them happy. They were all bred in captivity in
california or something. They had an interesting exhibit that's all tunnel
like and so you see water all around your top half. at the end, there's a
couple of small aquariums with some interesting looking things like nemo.

they're in the souvenier shop at the end of the line. we're never going back
there ever again. ever. above all the poor inbred captive sea life creatures
is kelly tarlton's parking lot. all over the parking lot is bad paintings of
sea life with captions saying 'DON'T POISON US! POISON THE OCEAN, POISON
US!' it's kind of creepy

ah, the wonderful life of living with a dishwasher! even if it's only the
size of a microwave oven, life is sweet! and it makes this wonderful melody
at you when you open it

outside of kelly stupid head tarltons patrick might have let me blindly
wander over the KEEP CLEAR!! thingy that might have had me falling into the
penguin pit, but he called out to me so he could snap this shot!

I started my job today. eight fifteen to five fifteen. man I'm exhausted. we
had dinner at some japanese sake restaurant a couple of blocks from our
place on queen street. we have dvd's to return to the ez rentals place. I
want a hot bath and a bottle of wine, but it's off to the bus so we can
return overdue movies. cool movies though, like the outsiders and harold and
maude (which I absolutely loved!) We watched supersize me yesterday in the
theatre. it was a pretty good film. We are going to look at two cars
tomorrow after work. YES! I'm so happy! except that I don't have a bath tub.
and patrick said we can't eat out for dinner so often anymore.

the one thing I haven't taken a picture of that I want to are all the lilies
that are just growing in people's gardens, in cemetaries, around town,
everywhere, giant white lilies. it's beautiful. they ALMOST look weedy since
they happen to be everywhere. it's nice though.

not a single child i worked with today had a smudge of please or thank you.
not a one. it's difficult to understand limited language with that damned
kiwi accent. I will never say that out loud while i'm here.

missing you millions!

April (mom)
i love you boys!
