Chapter Thirtyeight: 05 June 2005
Car Repairs

Hello everyone!

We’ve had to renew our warrant of fitness on the car. The WOF man says that we need to fix the front tyre and that there is power steering fluid leaking by the front tyres. What he didn’t say anything about was the fact that our rear drivers side tyre has a slow leak. He also said that we’ve got some welds that look as if they’ve been drilled out and need to be replaced with a declaration saying they are up to LSTA standards or something like that. Patrick took the car to the tyre place last weekend. Both tyres on the drivers side have been flat this week. We took it back this weekend and did I ever let loose in the shop. Patrick was worried that the big Maori guys might give him a hard time if I did that, but they didn’t, so I don’t know what he was so worried about. Maori people seem to have a lot of respect for First Nations people from America from what I’ve seen.

I took the car in to a shop by my work, and was quoted three hundred dollars for the welds. They didn’t look at it. The kiwis at Patrick’s work said he never should have let me take the car to the shop, that because I’m a girl I’d get ripped off. Patrick has some nerve to try to tell me off when I tell NZ’rs that they are chauvenistic. We took the car around to a number of shops this weekend, and found a place that said they’d do it right now for one hundred eighty dollars. We said, “OK.”

I had to use the toilet though, you know, being pregnant and all, and found the car parts in the shower!!! Then we went off in search of some lunch.

It was raining off and on. Luckily for the most part, we found cover during the rainfalls. I wasn’t always so lucky though, and didn’t realize that my feet were drenched. I knew my pants were, but I was soaked through to my tender tootsies.

Patrick seemed to enjoy the walk though. Look at how happy he is to see me taking a picture of my poor wet feet. I have a cold, so I didn’t think it was very funny.

I had to take a picture of this sign.

Here is the picture Patrick promised to let Daniel and Brennen see of the praying mantis. I wish he’d actually send them instead of making the promise and then telling me months later, “Oh . . . by the way . . . I sort of told the boys you’d post this picture.” Thanks Patrick.

I thought this was a pretty cool looking piece of art in the car lot on our wet walk waiting for the car to be welded.

It turns out that after you take all the caked on mud off of the supposed drilled out weld site, that the welds are in fact intact. God damned racist new zealander always trying to rip off the foriegners. I hate people sometimes. I think they give us a hard time for the pink hello kitty steering wheel cover. . .maybe we should remove it BEFORE we take it to the damned car shops eh? Anyway, since we didn’t have to pay for the repairs, we went to the shoe shop at Victoria Market in downtown Auckland. Patrick had tried on some Blunnies (blundstone boots) the weekend before and they phoned and said they’d had his size and colour in now. Across the street from the market is this FREE kindergarten!

Much love to you all! OH!

Patrick has reserved tickets via Tahiti for July 22nd to come home. We’re selling some of our stuff on Trade Me dot com – the ebay equivalent, and SAID he purchased the tickets on Friday and that he’ll have them in hand some time this week. Fingers crossed! I think we’re coming home early! Admittedly, I’d wanted to stay the full two years, but with my wonky mid wife (if I’d just stayed on taking my original vitamins in the first place, I would never have had any damned dizzy spells), and being so tired at work, and being bored to tears at staying in the house every damned weekend now (I think Patrick’s worried that I’ll go into labour on the road or something or maybe he just doesn’t want to be stuck in the car driving long distance with hormonal me) I’m looking forward to coming back home – to my boys, to my doctor, to good restaurant service. Besides, it’s winter here now, and coming into summer at home!

See you this summer!!!!
