Hello all! Happy Fathers Day!
Today is Patrick’s half birthday. We celebrated by spending another
wonderful night at the Copthorne Hotel in Pahia. It was better than
our anniversary and cheaper too! Our anniversary was during peak summer
touristy time, and Patrick’s half birthday seems to have landed
in the dead of winter, so we got a whole suite and buffet breakfast
for less than what we got on our anniversary. Sweet!
This picture is of the view we have been catching in the mornings on
our way to work. You can see the harbour bridge and downtown Auckland.

On the drive north to Pahia in a 100 km/hr zone, I had to slow down
because a little quad with two farmers was chugging along the road in
front of me. They were pulling over, which was cool, but a little dog
was chasing them, and even though I’d slowed down and moved over
to the oncoming traffic lane, the dog ran out and hit the passenger
side of the car! OMG!!!!! I felt so shaky and terrible! This is the
stretch of road coming back to where it all happened.

Well, of course I stopped the car immediately, threw on the hazards
and we jumped out to see if the poor pooch was alright. She seemed fine.
The two farmers live across the road from the dog. Her owner came out
and said that she must be alright since she’s still running around,
and told us not to worry since she seemed to be just fine. He explained
that she absolutely loves the four wheelers and that he’s got
a two wheeler that she just loves to ride on. Patrick asked if he could
take a picture. The farmer said that tourists absolutely love video
taping or taking photos of his dog on his two wheeler! So Patrick got
his picture of the dog who collided with our car.

We got to the hotel with no more incidents. This is just one of the
rooms in the suite!

While out with Nancy and David (who’ve gone back to America to
pack up their belongings before moving back here), I think it was David
who commented on the “land lice” and it’s sort of
popped back into my head recently during our drive. Considering there
are twelve sheep for every one person in the whole of New Zealand –
you really don’t see a whole heck of a lot of sheep – not
as much as you’d expect anyway. Here is a picture of some land
lice.

We went for a short walk around the hotel grounds. It was gorgeous.

A little bird was peeping at us. I think it wanted us to go away or
something because it kept swooping in on us and I was afraid I’d
get pecked. It would dance on it’s little rock. When we moved
along into the territory of another bird, the two swooped at each other,
peeping away, and then the rock owner bird went back to it’s rock
and the next little bird swooped and peeped at us.

Check out the super cool pointsetta plant! Patrick’s grinning
at the bird that is diving at me because it’s not diving at him
anymore!

This sand looked so red! I was all, “TAKE A PICTURE OF THE SAND!”

Yeah, and then I was all, “TAKE A PICTURE OF THE SEAWEED!”
Patrick of course popped some of them and made some of them spit up
their salt water.

We drove into town, did a little shopping, a little looking around and
headed back to order some room service. I’ve never had room service
before. It was pretty good. Patrick got fish and chips, I got vegetarian
ravioli. Might as well enjoy the whole suite while we’ve got it
eh?

I think we love the Copthorne because it includes a buffet breakfast
with your stay. They also have a super cool outdoor pool area, with
hot tub, wading pool and a couple of other pools in the same area. They
also have a little sand pit area for the kids! In any case, it’s
my pic with the breaky because I’ve got the healthy food on my
plate.

I’m having another ultrasound scan done before the end of the
month. I’m supposed to have more blood tests done as well, but
my midwife said she’d not bother with the bloods as I’ve
given enough as it was (my arms were still bruised from the lack of
iron thing at that time so who was I to argue?) They test for gestational
diabetes at this time though, so I think I’ll have to tell her
I’ll need those ‘bloods’ done. Ick
Much love,
April
